The Real Me
©2005 Tim Wheeler

Do you know him? Look into his eyes.
Is he the man you think you know?
You might revere him. You may think him wise.
But there's a side he'll never show.

You may not know him.
There is more than what you see.
No, you don’t know him,
You don’t know the real me. No.

Spent my life a paintbrush in my hands,
Touching up most every flaw in sight.
So I'm hoping you will understand
If my colors all seem washed in white.

You may not like him.
You might not savor what you see.
You may not like him,
When I reveal the real me.

I'm tired of hiding all these bags of dirty laundry.
I am longing to be free.
What I'm confiding, though, may place you in a quandary,
But that's the way it has to be

Tryin' my best to wear it on my sleeve.
It’s the hardest work I'll ever do.
But, it belongs to one who'll never leave,
So I can share this heart with you.

You don't not know him.
There is more than what you see
And you may not like him.
Or what he may turn out to be
But, could you love him?
Could you look past all you see?
Would you love him?
Will you love the Real Me?
