Little Black Bible

There's a little black bible on my kitchen table
On the first page is written, "Mama loves you"
Given to me on the day I got married
Passed down to Mama by her mama too
One of the fondest of all of my mem'ries
Is lying in bed as I fell into sleep
To the sweet, gentle sounds of the voice of my mama
Reading that little black bible to me
Bound in old leather, weathered and stained
Tattered by heartache and tears
That little black bible has shown us the way
For well over one hundred years
All the wisdom of ages is lost on the yearling
and I chose to wander too far from the fold
Drawn the gleam of the world and it's treasures
Seeking my pleasures in silver and gold
When all that was tempting had left my heart empty
And I found myself so lost and alone
It was Mama I heard and those sweet bible words
Helped me to find my way home
Bound in old leather, weathered and stained
Tattered by heartache and tears
That little black bible has shown us the way
For well over one hundred years
That little black bible. It showed us the way
For well over one hundred years
There's a little black bible on my kitchen table
On the first page is written, "Mama loves you"
I'll give it away when my daughter gets married
I pray that she gives it to her daughter too
